New Year’s Eve in Krakow

by Maciek

New Year’s Eve in Krakow always took place at the Krakow main square – Rynek Glowny. The celebration usually consisted of concerts and laser show, but this year due to the coronavirus, it was supposed to be different.

In November, fearing that restrictions will not allow organizing a mass event on the New Year’s Eve, Krakow officials decided that the concert will be replaced by street art.

It was announced, that on the New Year’s Eve, Krakow streets will be filled with the best art installations prepared by the city’s artists. Unfortunately, this will not happen.

Due to the Coronavirus situation in Krakow and in the whole Poland and world, this had to been cancelled as well. There will be no concert, no fireworks organized by the city and no art installations. And because all restaurants and bars are expected to be closed due to the restrictions, you can’t find a public place to celebrate New Year’s Eve in Krakow this year.

Restrictions in Krakow during New Year’s Eve in 2020

Not only it’s impossible to find a place to celebrate, but it’s difficult to organize a party on your own. According to currently imposed restrictions, you may only meet at home with 5 more people (excluding host). There will be a curfew between 7 pm on the 31st of December and 6 am on the 1st of January, so you can’t even go outside to celebrate year-end with a glass of Champagne.
